A classic farmhouse takes a contemporary turn thanks to a refreshingly cheerful color palette. A soft apricot exterior paint sets the siding aglow, glossy white paint highlights the home's vintage details, and smoky gray paint adds visual weight to the front door and window sashes. Appreciate this home's welcoming outlook? Coat your home's siding with warm paint colors boasting yellow or red undertones. House Paint Color Denver CO
Earthy beige coats most of this home's facade, but a fire-engine red front door bucks the trend. If you're looking to quickly switch up your exterior color scheme, a new front door color is one of the easiest makeover ideas. When working with an existing color palette, consider the undertones and color family already used within the facade. For example, this slightly cooler red, rather than one that leans orange, plays nicely with the cool undertones of the beige brick and siding. House Paint Color Denver CO

Neutrals like white don’t have to be one-note. Pick a shade with undertones that match the rest of your exterior color scheme. On this home, white siding with blue undertones melds gracefully with a bright blue front door and powder-blue porch furniture and pendant light. Each color in the trio is distinct, but their commonalities create perfect harmony.

Susan Williams, an interior designer at Siren Betty Design, first used Gentleman's Gray by Benjamin Moore when designing rooms for a local bed-and-breakfast. Shortly after, everyone at her company fell heads over heels for the shade. "We loved it so much that we painted our office wall the same color. We think it looks especially great in a gloss finish—the way the light reflects of off it is gorgeous and gives any room a lot of character." A blueish gray this deep gives a serene, comforting vibe and works very well in a place like the bedroom. House Paint Color Denver

Cottage style can be wide-ranging, but it’s always casual and never stuffy. Often, where your home is located can drive the specific cottage vibe, such as a suburban neighborhood compared to a beachside cottage. Regardless, the appeal of these homes is rooted in the eclectic range of looks and the ability to customize the color and style to your own taste. House Paint Color
When you have a gorgeous, sprawling Craftsman style home set in the woods, you'll want an exterior paint color that works with, not against, your surroundings. The green color of this sustainable home, from Asheville architects ACM Design PA, works in perfect harmony with the lush surrounding trees as well as with the manufactured stone veneer apron and crisp white trim. Some of the best exterior house paint ideas are those that turn tradition on its head. Take, for example, Colonial-style homes, which are often painted in a single color, many times white. While a white exterior color scheme has classic appeal, there are ways to update and modernize that choice, too. For example, the accent shades chosen here (a dusty lavender-gray and a bright turquoise) would normally not be used in the same color scheme. Here, though, the grayish-purple offers a refined accent on the shutters, while the turquoise (a brighter spin-off of some of those same blue-purple tones) directs foot traffic to the front door. Plus, if you're looking for easy exterior paint ideas, adding color to just your shutters and front door is the way to go.
Give your fireplace mantle an accent paint color, as this adds a quick update without having to tear anything out. In the kitchen, give your cabinets a new look with a douse of kitchen cabinet paint for an affordable and satisfying update. Countertop paint makes kitchen countertops look new again. You can do it yourself with a countertop paint kit in less than a weekend. A worn-out bathtub can look new with a coating of bathtub paint. Even your tiles can get a refresh or touch up, try tile paint on your backsplash or shower. Pro-tip: Use semi-gloss paint for kitchens and bathrooms as they wipe down easily.

It's OK to pick just one element that stands out in your exterior color scheme; more often than not, that's the front door. The reason is aesthetic as well as practical: A bright front door hue such as this red signals visitors where to enter. On this house, the bulk of the color (warm gray) helps the low-slung profile gently recede into the landscape. House Paint Color Denver CO

Though this home's main exterior paint colors are shades of red and orange, they play nicely together because they share brown undertones that give them a muted appearance. Brown shingled roofs and window trim enhance without disrupting the view. Since ever-shifting natural light affects how paint colors are viewed, look at fan decks and paint chips outside on bright and cloudy days. Better yet, experts suggest trying three colors (for the shutters, trim, and siding, for example) on the front of your home and stepping across the street to see how the combination works. Such a great and useful post. When my husband and I bought out first house (we’re now on #5), we instinctively (but not deliberately) worked our entire decor around a wallpaper we fell in love with (and used in our entry/hallway). In our second house, we didn’t do that and everything always felt kind of disjointed. We finally figured out why it’s important to have a starting point and to consider how things will work together. Not that everything should be matchy matchy but everything should feel cohesive. My only exception is bedrooms – especially when you want to give kids a say in their spaces. I am so enjoying all of your new house updates and can’t wait to see how it’s all come together at the end. Denver House Paint Color
Materials used on a home's exterior often supply a built-in base for a color scheme. For example, brick exteriors tend to take on a warmer, red hue. The question then becomes what to do about the accents. This limestone facade offers a base that's in tune with both the home's architecture and the natural landscape. To keep the color vibe low-key and minimalist, shutters and windows were painted a neutral yellow shade that nearly blends in with the stonework. For a bit of warmth and as an accent, a medium-tone stain warms the front door.
In some ways, red is actually a traditional color choice: Think red barns and brick homes. One thing is for sure and that is that red is an energetic color, however it also signals warmth and comfort. These are both qualities that are desirable in a home, so don’t hesitate to paint your home red. Of course, we’re not talking lipstick red. There are many shades of red, ranging from those with a rusty brown undertone to hues that tend more toward orange. House Paint Color

"There are a small number of timeless and classic shades we always find ourselves coming back to when searching for the perfect neutral," says Alicia Weaver of Alicia Weaver Design. "Alaskan Husky by Benjamin Moore is one of them. It is a classic shade of gray that complements accent colors." Light silvery grays work beautifully in guest bedrooms and in front entryways.
Protect wood fences and deck with exterior stains and wood sealers. A few coats can keep your deck vibrant, healthy and looking great for years. Or, go for more of a restore by treating your deck to new colors or texture with deck paint. Remember, cleaning is an essential part of the project. It will stop premature peeling and make your exterior paint last longer. Pro tip: Take at least as much time to prep as you will for painting.  House Paint Color Denver CO
You might not think of this blush pink, which has a hint of apricot, as a neutral color, but Ashley Banbury, senior color designer for HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams tells us that the definition of neutral is changing from the shades we’re used to. “Our view on neutrals has expanded outside the typical gray and beige, and we have begun to embrace colorful shades that are soft and welcoming,” she says.
The primary colors (red, yellow, and blue) are the basis of all other hues, and as such, they're naturally complementary. But very few of us would consider painting a home in red, yellow, and blue, as represented in the original color wheel. However, when given rich depth or startling brightness, the hues provide an exterior color scheme that's at once distinctive and deeply satisfying. The key to color combinations is to select one color that pops (here, yellow) and another that's used sparingly (in this case, red). The rich shade of blue acts almost as a neutral for the exterior house paint color.
